Welcome To Minto Children’s Home
Minto Children’s Home is a non-profit organization that was formed in 2005 as a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) with the aim of identifying, caring and supporting HIV/AIDS orphaned children within the Coast Region.
We are based in Magongo, Mrang’a area, Airport Ward Changamwe constituency, Not far from Moi International Airport Mombasa Kenya. The organization is well registered as par the laws and rules of Kenya regarding children homes and orphanages and child protection.
Due to low rates of economic performance, support to the orphans is low leading to rampant cases of neglect and abuse by the extended families and the society.
There is, therefore, need for concerted effort to put mitigation measures to address the negative impacts that accompany the uncontrolled increase in the number of orphans in the region.
In view of this, our organization was started so as to provide a place where these vulnerable children could call home, gain access to the basic amenities and be mentored to become all-round individuals with a strong Christian Foundation.
Minto Children’s Home (formerly SAVEDA children Home) was started by Mrs. Susan Kerubo Ochwangi.
Mrs. Ochwangi, a breast cancer survivor, initially had two boys and four girls but shifted to a girls-only home following a government directive which required one to stick to one gender if one does not have sufficient finances and facilities to cater for both.
There is a dire need for the home to have their own facility as they have been shifting residence due to renting costs. They are currently putting up at a 3-bed roomed house which is barely enough to cater for the growing number of children which currently stands at 26 girls.
The founder lives on site with the children and is supported by three staff members who have been volunteering. She has a son and four grandchildren.
